When we get off the plane, we get our luggage and pick up our car keys at the rental counter right there in the terminal, walk across the street to the rental cars' parking lot, get into our rental car and drive to the car ferry in Red Hook about 20 minutes away. Get on one of the car ferries several operators which comes almost every 15-30 minutes, and you are in St. John within 15-20 minutes. It's a nice trip over.
