Does anyone know if you can pay a fee and take this boat even if we aren't staying at the Westin? Any other suggestions greatly appreciated! Itakes about forty to forty-five minutes. The Red Hook ferry costs just a few dollars, runs every hour and takes about 15 minutes. We are renters so we usually meet the villa Rep at the public ferry dock. Catching the ferry in is also an option. Its is a shorter cab ride and a longer boat. The costs come out the same. Taxis are expensive especially if you want to explore the island. We have a home on and we always reserve a car ahead of time with one of the companies which operate out of the airport in e. Budget, Hertz or Avis. When we get off the plane, we get our luggage and pick up our car keys at the rental counter right there in the terminal, walk across the street to the rental cars' parking lot, get into our rental car and drive to the car ferry in Red Hook about 20 minutes away. Get on one of the car ferries several operators which comes almost every 15-30 minutes, and you are in St. John within 15-20 minutes. It's a nice trip over. You can get out and walk around or sit in your car and catch your breath. You drive off the ferry and off to your villa. Make sure you pick up their schedule. Car ferries between St. John run from about 7 a. Thomas for dinner thinking you'll be able to bring your car back. We made that mistake once. The passenger ferry runs until 11 p. Things may appear chaotic at the airport but tell the guys where you want to go Red Hook and they'll put you and your luggage in a van for the trip. If you are renting a the people meeting you can arrange it all and drive you or more likely walk you to the rena jeep place. Personally driving on St John is a gas, driving on looks like no fun.
